The Kyrgyz Republic is famous for its variety of landscapes. Most of its territory is covered by mountains with picturesque gorges, high peaks, alpine lakes, waterfalls and sandstone formations (aka canyons). One of those canyons lies around 130 km away from the capital, in the Boom gorge where we spent the night after a exhausting day in Bishkek, searching for a way to apply for our russian transit visas.
Kan'ony Konorchek
This canyon really reminds its visitors of the Grand Canyon in the United States, whether one has actually been there in person or did just see countless pictures, like us.
Anyway, it's a breath taking sight, once you get out of the narrowing, dried out river bed leading up to that large plateau.
We're always surprised about Nino's agility and youthful moves when it comes to challenging sectors like some, we did with the help of safety ropes. While you think about how to get him up there, he's past you in a second, looking back down to you as if to say "what takes you so long?!". After all, he has reached his 10th birthday already soon a year ago!
Without a warning, you are entering the scenery!
It is really the moment we realize, we are far away from home, far away from what we know.
A very relaxed, short hike with a huge reward!
The french gathering
For the night, we find a spot in the valley of Kegeti. As we arrive, we are alone, exept some horses and cows.
But soon, two campers come bumping down the rocky road. A french family with two cute girls in their pick up camper and a couple (also french) travelling with their self built truck. We're spending the first evening together, having beer and talking about the experiences we did on this journey. It reminds me of finally getting my french going!!
The next day, we leave early to drive back to Bishkek. Another visa day - somehow a thing on this journey. Against all our expetations - we tried to get ourselfs read for another nerv taking several hours in front of bars, being pushed around by strangers - things went EXTREMLY well! The guard at the door got us inside after only 10 minutes waiting and we were out after a half hour, incredible!! Relieved and happy we make our way back to the french spot - for another comfortable evening together.
We will spend the next seven days around the Yssykköl lake, until we have to get back to Bishkek to recieve our visas.
